This German advent calendar with glitter accents depicts a traditional German house deep in the winter forest. Woodland creatures including deer, owl, pheasant, rabbits and wild boar gather at the manger for their Christmas gifts of food. The family dog helps the children laden with gifts and treats find their way home from the town Christmas market. An evergreen tree decked with candles lights their path as their cat anxiously sits on porch awaiting their return.
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
This calendar was printed in Germany, by the Richard Sellmer Publishing Co., in Stuttgart. Founded by Richard Sellmer in 1945, it remains family owned & operated, after 75 years.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
