This German advent calendar with glitter accents, shows an intimate Alpine chapel in the forest on Christmas eve night.  The glowing church, street lamp and candles on the towering live Christmas trees set against the dusky blue star studded night sky evoke the warmth and magical feel of Christmas.  The townsfolk are serenaded by carolers as they come for the Christmas Eve service.
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
This calendar was printed in Germany, by the Richard Sellmer Publishing Co., in Stuttgart. Founded by Richard Sellmer in 1945, it remains family owned & operated, after 75 years.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
