This German advent calendar with glitter accents depicts the Frauenkirche, one of the most famous landmarks in Dresden, Germany at Christmas.  Each detail of the church from the window layout on the dome to the cross on the top was carefully reproduced on paper in great detail.  At the foot of the Frauenkirche is located a lively Christmas market, where the mouthwatering scent of roasted almonds, mulled wine & baked goods fills the air.

    The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
    This calendar was printed in Germany, by the Richard Sellmer Publishing Co., in Stuttgart. Founded by Richard Sellmer in 1945, it remains family owned & operated, after 75 years.
     The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
